This week I will be trying to address why the Milq midbass is clipping. This is very interesting one. Currently the Melquiades LF channel uses an output transformer 700R to 5R or 11.83 to 1. I thought before that I have much lower ratio, like 5:1 bu...
I bought the ML2s to use as a development/reference tool while constructing this horn system. The idea being that I would first use them to dial in the horns, and later as a reference, to which I would compare and evolve ...

Well, I spent today a number of hours trying to advance my observations regarding abilities of the one-stage Melquiades. It was quite interesting. Thankfully the electivity today was way better during the second part of day. I loaded the 6E6P heavier...

You are correct about the load matching, for the Super Mild LF channel a half-Ohm of loading change bass quite dramatically. Still, the idea was to make this SET completely without any intentionally implemented feedback. It is juts not necessar...

Actually I did have it is past. At that time I used a low-pass filer on my upperbass horn. It was 103dB sensitive driver of 16Ohm, highly inductive, and I needed somewhere hear 800Hz, speaker level, the first order. Being an extremist I got 3mH coil ...

Yes, Jim, you put it very well. Still in case of the 6C33C it only possible to cool the glass and I made experiments blowing a strong flow to the glass and it did cool down the plates. The problem is that it is not a good idea to apply a strong flow ...

Romy,
Thanks for the updated image of the Super Melquiades.
For the past 10 days I have had to temporarily stop production of the horns and put off researching components for the amps; all this is due to my moving to a new apartment sooner than...
I wonder if it is the reactive components (blocking caps etc) that are to blame here, seeing as much of the problem is in the lower bass.
Chris, what you said made me to think.
Look, the output of Bidat and a SS buffer that b...
Funny, I was just thinking about battery powering of amps... I know you have identified that the problem is more with the sources, but it would be interesting and quite feasible with the Melquiades and other components... wouldn...
and dm did say he's tried (and rejected?) several SETs already, in the context of Klipsch Horns.
No, I didn't say that at all. I said that the were aspects of the 6C33CB's presentation via the Almarro A318B SET, that ...

This thread is a derivation from the thread:
An ultimate transformer within a narrow bandwidth?
Since my Super Milquades is up and running I’m wondering what can I do with the output transformer at HF channel in order to push the envelop of “possi...
Make an experiment, and I will simplify the case quite assertively. Take a typical compression driver, cross it at 800Hz, second order and load it into a proper contemporary horn (Tratrix or JMLC) of 300Hz. Listen that hor...

I was yesterday drawing plans for the Zaratustra II’s chassis and was wondering how I might use it. The Zaratustra II turned out to be a little Monster, efforts-wise and expanses-wise. I hope it will demonstrate some results that will rectify the eff...

OK, now I recognize my S2 driver, thank God.
I was give to my new PS for MF channel one more change today to show itself off. I relayed the Hartmann ‘s first movement of the Shostakovich First Violin Concerto. As I said above the progress was very n...

I kind of disagree with Adrian. The wire, the coupling caps, the cathode resistors and many other things are superbly important but it is after the strategic topology is settled. In my view caps, resistor, wire and other things are responsible for th...

I do not know, you have to decide to yourself what kind tubes and the most important HOW you would like to test them. For different tubes, differently used the different things are important. I had a few testers and all of them were OK but all ...

I spend quite a few hours playing with the new channel trying to ingrate into Macondo but so far not successful.
Since the new channel and the Macondo upperbass horn have identical sensitively and identical impedance I figured that I would drive it...

The recent events in my playback made me to think about he new prospective duty of tweeters. Since the Super Melquiades was enlisted for duty the Vitavox S2 got it’s own dedicated amplifier channel and stopped to “see” the coil of upper bass driver. ...

Playing recently with setting up the new 6-ch Milq I again got an interesting feeling about my Fundamentals Channel. The in Injection Channel partially overrides some benefit of the Fundamentals Channel and I have a partial feeling that it would be p...

MochaMike, yes you are correct it would not be the “softness” but rather”liquidity”. Still what you are taking is applicable for the paper cone 4 to 15" drivers not compression drivers. Who knows how the compression drivers will react.
To the rest ...
So sometimes i just wonder why do you need 6C33C at all, with your high-sensitive speakers.

I think it has already been stated. Batteries in audio are inherently of limited utility. It is a tendency of audiophiles to dedicate themselves to a single "silver bullet" instead of building the system based on the particular ne...

Last nigh I spend a couple hours to listening this thing. Since the amp is done in design phase and the final parts are still in order I can not finish it and close up – it kind of frustrating… Still, it gives opportunities to listen it knowing that ...
The altered topology of DSET has the potential to have disadvantages. There is increased overall system complexity and this often seems to be a negative. Beyond this, it is difficult to expound, for me, on the specifi...

As some of you know I’m playing last couple days with Red 10” Tannoys from 60s. My selection of 10” was not accidental -I would like to get as less as possible of that “Tannoy bass” but I did run very far the “Reds” turned out to have 27Hz open...

Romy:Again thanks for the response. With regard to the most important question, my choice would be to use the standard AM Amorphous C-Core transformers in the short term but the Direct Tube Drive in the long term. As I mentioned elsewhere, I was in t...

Ah, last night, after midnight I picked in McMaster-Carr some elements for my proposed Supper Melq rack. Thy shipped it UPS ground and I had it delivered that same day! How they do it? Anyhow, I connected two shelves with 4 x 12” by 5/8” rods. I tigh...
Iwas going to ask you about that funny looking damping material. Then you explained it at bottom of post. Very clever to use mouse pads! Lately I've been using cork & buna rubber sheets from McMaster-Carr....

Splitting the Lamm ML3 thread: http://www.goodsoundclub.com/TreeItem.aspx?PostID=3595
There are some people who worship direct-heated tubes and attribute to them some ventures (like absent of higher harmonics and a special micro-fineness). The...
